4 Tips for Decorating Your Yoga Space

Divine Transformation

Isn’t it amazing how spaces can make us feel a certain way? Look at where you are right now. Is the room light or dark? Cluttered or minimalistic? Spacious or cozy? The aesthetics of a space can lead us to feel motivated, energized, and happy…or they can make us feel anxious, or like getting comfortable and binge-watching a show.

Where do you practice yoga? Maybe it’s in your backyard, living room, bedroom, or somewhere else. Wherever it may be, making it an encouraging and comfortable place can help you go further in your practice. So, let’s take a look at 4 tips for decorating your yoga space!

Give yourself lighting options.

A bright and well-lit space is optimal for a morning flow to get your day started, but it is equally important to give yourself darkness for restorative and meditative yoga. Opt for a room that is well lit, but add window coverings so that you can have the best of both worlds.

Go green.

As wonderful as it is to go out in nature and get your flow on, it’s not always possible. Maybe it’s snowing, way too hot, or your home doesn’t have an outdoor area. Bring the green to you by adding some easy to care for houseplants into your space. Plants help improve mood and also can improve your air quality by adding oh-so-essential oxygen.

Less is more.

I’m sure we all have some areas in our house that could use some decluttering, but start by where you practice. During your flow, you want to be focused on the moment, not thinking about why you still haven’t taken those boxes of Christmas decorations back to the garage yet! Plus, it can be a safety hazard.

Stay rooted with a meaningful piece.

By adding a piece of wall art that has meaning to you, you can remind yourself why you’re practicing in the first place. Maybe it’s your favorite Bible verse, a scenic or family photo, or a quote that inspires you. Help remind yourself of your “why.” You don’t have to go all out or spend a lot. Print it off, or look to Etsy or Pinterest for inspiration!

Creating a space that you love is a great way to practice some much-deserved self-care. You don’t have to have a dedicated “yoga room,” renovation skills, or even invest a lot of time or money into it. Just make yourself comfortable with a space that you enjoy, and can focus on your health, wellbeing, and your connection with Jesus!
