BODY SIZE DOES NOT TELL A STORY
It’s important to understand that body size does not tell a story. A larger body does not tell us that a student is lazy, out of shape, a binge eater, inflexible, a beginner, not athletic, or insecure. This is also true for smaller bodies; their body does not tell us they are energetic, fit, healthy eaters, flexible, advanced, athletic, or secure. Body size and body shape do not tell a story, regardless of the body.
WHAT WE KNOW TRANSLATES INTO OUR ACTIONS
This is imperative for yoga instructors to understand because what’s going on in our heads will translate into our words, tone, expressions, and actions. Simply saying that we are a fat ally, fat positive, body positive, or inclusive does not do the work, but checking our internal biases and modifying our behavior does.
