Learning from Martin Luther King Jr.

Divine Transformation

On Monday we will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a warrior for peace and unity. But the way that he fought for peace and unity was through a method called non-violence.

Dr. King is famous for saying this: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

This thought is consistent with the Bible’s teachings, too. In Matthew 5:9 NIV, Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” And in Hebrews 12:14 NIV, it says, “make every effort to live in peace with everyone.”

Take some time to reflect on the contribution Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has made to our world and try these yoga poses.

Peaceful Warrior Pose

Peaceful warrior pose: Step your feet into a wide step. Lift one hand toward heaven, let the other hand rest on your back leg. Take three deep breaths. Switch sides and try again on this side. Reflect on how you can be a warrior for peace, too.

Simple Seated Pose

Sit with your legs crossed and your back long and straight. Line the bottom of your chin up with the floor. Place your hands on your knees. Take several nice breaths here. Feel the feeling of peace and calm in your heart and body. Thank God for His ways of peace. Let His love help you feel connected to others.

Be blessed, our little peacemakers!
