A Christmas Message From Our Founder
What’s up, Holy Yoga Family?! Merry, merry Christmas!
I am so excited to bring you a word at this year-end when we are celebrating the Advent, celebrating the coming King Emanuel, God with us. I was struck in my meditation and thinking about this coming God and how many things He has been to me: Father, Friend, Savior, Counselor, Teacher… He has been everything in so many different seasons and ways, and I was reminded of Isaiah 9:6.
When the prophet Isaiah is talking about this coming King, this Emanuel, this God with us, he says this:
“Hope of all hopes, dream of our dreams,
a child is born, sweet-breathed; a son is given to us: a living gift.
And even now, with tiny features and dewy hair, He is great.
The power of leadership, and the weight of authority, will rest on His shoulders.
His name? His name we’ll know in many ways—
He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Dear Father everlasting, ever-present never-failing,
Master of Wholeness, Prince of Peace.
His leadership will bring such prosperity as you’ve never seen before—
sustainable peace for all time.
This child: God’s promise to David—a throne forever, among us,
to restore sound leadership that cannot be perverted or shaken.
He will ensure justice without fail and absolute equity. Always.
The intense passion of the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies,
will carry this to completion.”
Isaiah 9:6 (VOICE)
I love that the evidence of the coming King is sustainable peace — that’s what God brings. That’s what the Spirit brings; it brings reconciliation; it brings peace; it brings wholeness. He gave the name He would be called, “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Dear Father everlasting, ever-present never-failing, Master of Wholeness, Prince of Peace.” He goes on to say: if you yield to My leadership, I will bring you sustainable peace.
So I am celebrating, and maybe you are, too, that this God, this Child that was born to us, who would come and would not just go all the way for us, but would resurrect so that we can know where we are going and have a faith and a hope and a belief that is sure and that is anchored. This is who God is: anything you need Him to be.
I know that there are no other people on this planet that know this space of waiting, of allowing God to be God, more than this Holy Yoga family. So I know I am talking to people who know what I am talking about!
We have so many great things coming in the new year. We have incredible spiritual formation programs — both a communal, longer program and a shot-in-the-arm, “remind me who I am God” kind of programming; and of course, all the yoga stuff.
I hope to see more of you in the new year as we allow God, the coming God, the One who is all, holds it all together; the One who comes and gets to be all these things. When we give God the authority to be God in our lives, what happens is that we get sustainable peace — the kind that transcends all understanding — because it comes from some place that is coming to us.
