As a parent, caregiver, yoga teacher, or working professional, life often feels like a constant juggling act. Whether you’re meeting deadlines, managing your family’s needs, or guiding others through practices and lessons, the demands can feel overwhelming. When you’re constantly pouring out to others, it’s easy to forget about your own well-being. But what happens when your energy and passion run dry?
This is where the spiritual discipline of retreat can make all the difference.
A retreat isn’t just about getting away for a few days—it’s about intentionally stepping away from the daily noise and busyness of life to reconnect with God. It’s creating sacred space to pause, reflect, and allow yourself to be refilled with His peace, love, and purpose.
Sure, you can take a “retreat” at home, whether through quiet moments in your favorite chair or a peaceful walk. But there’s something unique about leaving behind the everyday responsibilities, especially as a working professional, caregiver, or parenting. When you remove yourself from your usual environment, you create an intentional space to recharge—physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Retreat isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity for your spiritual health. As a parent, caregiver, yoga teacher, or working professional, you may feel the weight of constantly giving to others. But if you’re giving from an empty cup, it’s easy to burn out, feel disconnected, or lose sight of God’s purpose for your life.
Jesus knew the importance of retreat. In Mark 6:31, He invites His disciples to come away with Him to a quiet place and rest: “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Jesus understood that rest and retreat were key to staying spiritually aligned and energized, especially in the midst of life’s demands.
Whether you’re juggling a full work schedule, managing a household, or teaching yoga classes, retreat gives you the opportunity to step back, listen to God’s voice, and return to your role with fresh clarity, strength, and purpose.
In Scripture, retreat isn’t just a nice idea—it’s a practiced discipline. Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray and reconnect with His Father (Luke 5:16, Matthew 14:23). Moses retreated up Mount Sinai to receive God’s guidance. Even the Apostle Paul took moments of solitude to deepen his relationship with God.
We see throughout the Bible that retreat is a vital practice, not for escaping life, but for refocusing on God. It’s an invitation to step away from the demands of the world and reconnect with Him, so that we can return to life with renewed strength, wisdom, and perspective.
While creating retreat moments at home is important, there is something incredibly special about taking time away to completely disconnect and focus on your spiritual renewal. That’s why we invite you to join us for the Holy Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica, happening September 18-22, 2025.
