Holy Yoga: Not My Hobby but My Mission

Divine Transformation

I cherish this photo! Not often does the impact of a Holy Yoga class result in a tattoo but for both of us it did.

What she never knew before showing me her tattoo was that years ago I had a similar story and tattoo with the same important word to prove it. Her story adds to why I will continue to show up and share the divine promptings I hear. Holy Yoga is not my hobby but my mission.

Here’s her story:

“2019 was a humbling year for me, to say the least. I had just experienced a moment of failure that shook my foundation and caused me to crumble, unraveling everything I had worked to build up. After a solid couple of months of an emotionless fog, I decided to start therapy. I was diagnosed with social and generalized anxiety disorder, and have had it all my life. With my goal in life now out of reach, and the need to cope with this new revelation about myself, I spent the entire year trying to figure it out.

‘Where do I go from here?’

‘How can I move forward from this, how can I heal myself?’

Then I went to your Holy Yoga class. It was your ‘Be’ class. Which part of the phrase ‘Be still and know that I am God’ called out to me? ‘Be still.’

For my entire life, I have always been the girl-on-the-move. I have to be moving. I have a packed calendar. I always have stuff to do, a plan to follow, and a goal to achieve. But the Lord spoke and continued speaking those two holy words anytime I began to spiral. ‘Shh, be still,’ He would whisper.

I’m happy to say that I’ve broken out of my spiral. There are still tough days, but I know that I can get through it. This little reminder helps me when I start to feel out of control, to come back to stillness. To know that He is God and He will help guide me through whatever He has planned for me.”

This post was written by one of our Licensed Instructor Trainers, Shurayah Wilkerson. Hearing of Holy Yoga in 2008, Shurayah did not feel qualified to take a class much less go through training. But after having her daughter in 2014, the Lord began to redirect her steps. Needing to find a place to relax and restore, she quickly fell in love with yoga — all while inviting the Lord into this activity. In 2016, she took the leap and has been proudly serving the Lord by holding space for others to experience healing and safety to be met by their creator.
