On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly presented a bill that was endorsed by an all-time record of 175 member states. It was the bill that declared June 21st to be International Day of Yoga! The day was dedicated to the inner and outer well-being of all humans, across the globe. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga including physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.
Yoga origins date back to 5000 years ago. The word yoga originates from the Sanskrit word Yuja, which means to yoke or unite. So, what better way to spend International Day of Yoga than with your fellow omi’s! Here are a couple of fun ideas to celebrate the numerous benefits of yoga and at the same time, yoke with your community. This year’s theme is Climate Action.
- Check out Eventbrite for an IDY event at a city near you! Imagine practicing with hundreds of fellow yogis…good vibes and peace all around!
- Look for local yoga studios offering free classes on that day. You can also visit our Find an Instructor page and see if there is a Holy Yoga class near you on June 21st.
- Grab your friends, your hiking boots or bikes…hence, the theme…and hit the trails! Pick a lovely spot to stop, drop, and yoga together.
- Host a watch party in your home! On behalf of International Yoga Day, we have included a Free Holy Yoga TV Class for you.
