Deciding to start your journey as a Holy Yoga instructor is best described as a leap of faith. It is a commitment of your time, energy and resources. Whether you’re wanting to strengthen your relationship with Christ, open your own studio, or learn more about yoga for your own practice, it is a rewarding endeavor.
However, it is common to experience fear in the unknown. “What should I expect?” “What if I’m too shy?” “What if I can’t navigate the technology?”
These are all thoughts that enter a new student’s mind in one form or another. But the Bible says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:9 (NIV).
So, to take the edge off of that fear and uncertainty, we want you to know what you can expect on your first day of Holy Yoga instructor training.
It may be scary to see so many faces that you don’t know
Have you ever been the new kid at school? You look around and don’t know anyone? Well, the good news is that you’re in a virtual classroom of beautiful souls who likely feel the exact same way! We get it! That is why we ask you to view this as an opportunity to create new and life-long relationships. In training, you’ll be placed in a small Life Group of less than 10 people, which will help you feel more comfortable and make connecting a little less scary.
Navigating technology may be a little tricky
While some of us may be our family’s personal IT support, that is certainly not the case for all of us. In your first class, you may even hear our instructor, Jonnie, mention that technology does not come naturally to her. We have worked to make virtual learning as simple as possible, but you might still run into a few bumps along the way – and that is ok! We’re here to support you, and we promise, after the first class, it just gets easier and easier!
You may feel overwhelmed
In addition to your weekly training class, you will also have an estimated 8-15 hours of additional work per week. It may take you more time, it may take you less time. But we promise that you won’t be spending all of it writing papers and reading textbooks! We make it balanced and engaging by breaking your training coursework into sections such as yoga practice, journaling, online quizzes, and reading from books that you’ll likely enjoy. The best way to overcome this overwhelm is to break it up throughout the week – make your plan and stick to it.
If you’re thinking about going through training, you’ve already completed the first step! If uncertainty is holding you back, remember that the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go, and we will be too!
