Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Phillipians 4:6-7
I would love to say that I easily place all my requests at God’s feet and that I am not anxious about anything – but that would be a lie. My inability to surrender things to God has played havoc on my endocrine system.
The endocrine system is a chemical messenger system that helps keep the entire body in balance. Organs such as the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, thyroid, pancreas, and adrenals can be affected when the endocrine system is not working correctly.
When these glands are compromised a person may experience things like:
Sleep disorders
Weight gain
Electrolyte imbalances
Body temperature regulation issues
Increased cortisol
Moodiness
These glands interface with other organs and systems which also mean that those areas may not function optimally as well.
In my case, when my endocrine system is not working well and my adrenals are taxed, I don’t sleep well, suffer from muscle fatigue and become short-tempered. When things were really bad I was tired all the time and was constantly light-headed when moving up and down.
As I have begun to understand the crucial role of our endocrine system for total body health, I have been reminded over and over how important it is to surrender things to God. I’ve also learned the importance of Sabbath rest to allow my mind, body, and spirit time to rejuvenate.
The endocrine system is one of the many system that is broken down in-depth in our Holy Yoga Therapy program that starts soon.
